Poems from the past – 7 – A beautifull day

Posted on Friday, June 26, 2009 in Duke Of All Trades, English Posts, Poems from the past

A Beautifull Day

A beautifull day

All is white
All is light
Everything wates for a new horizon
Everything is peaceful at this season
In the sky the sun is shining
And the natures beauty is blinding
On the trees the birds tweet
And their melodie is so sweet
The trees are so green
Like I never seen
This is a wonderous place
Where no humain left his trace
Everything is so happy
All around me
Everything is so nice
Cats are friends with mice
All the creatures have got a friend
But every thing, has got an end

Poems from the past – 6 – A turkey’s idea

Posted on Thursday, June 25, 2009 in Duke Of All Trades, English Posts, Poems from the past

We now return to much more surreal subject matter, with this second seasonal poem.
By the way, there’s only one more poem from the past left! Tune in tomorrow for the gripping finale!

A turkey's idea

A turkey’s idea

Once their was a turkey that was fat
And that was always followed by a bat
He was thinking
And his head was icthing
He didn’t like the date
It was Christmas
And he didn’t want to end on a plate
Then he got an idea
And ran to the Mafia
So later he was a member
In the middle of decembre
He found a gun
That was big like the sun
Then he marched towards the home of the people
Who thought that killing him was so simple
Soon they were dead
And the turkey said
-That’s for killing turkeys for no reason
at this season!

I wonder what happened to the bat.

Poems from the past – 5 – Comics

Posted on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 in Duke Of All Trades, English Posts, Poems from the past

Gotcha!
I mean… Cinnamon? Seriously? Come on!
Of course it was Comics!
Admittedly, I had a lot of fun imitating my 12 year-old self’s poetry, spelling and hand-writing.

It was mostly done as punishment for snouf, who attempted something like 15 different guesses and basically ruined the game for everyone else…
But yes, it was Comics all along. Obviously.

So, without further ado, I present part 3 of “Things I liked that start with C“: COMICS!

Comics

Comics

Ah! Comics are great
They are a pleasure
Ah! Comics what a delight!
What a treasure
With Donald and Mickey Mouse
Asterix and Lucky Luke
With comics I have filled my house
I feal like a duke!
On comics I sleep
Only comics I buy
There so cheep!
Bang, paf, zoom
zip, wow, kaboom!
This is a melodious tune
Good always wins
And comics are full of jokes
Yes thats right folks
Comics oh comics! I wish I cood by more
But I’ve bought all I found in the
store.

My taste in comics has changed in the last 10 years (as has my opinion concerning their price), but the feeling of joy remains the same.
That is, after all, what I’ve enjoyed the most about these poems from the past. They’ve made me realize how much I still have in common with my 12 year-old self.
I’m also incredibly proud of how awesome I was, back then. I don’t remember being this cool or creative at 15 or 18… It took me almost 10 years to reach comparable levels of awesomeness! What happened in between?

I blame girls.

Poems from the past – i – Cinnamon

Posted on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 in Duke Of All Trades, English Posts, Poems from the past

Frankly, I didn’t expect anyone to guess this. In fact, I had almost forgotten about it, myself.

Few people know this (well, not anymore), but I used to be a huge cinnamon junkie. I’d go through a whole pack (of gum) a day because I kept swallowing them as soon as they lost their cinnamon flavor. This poem is proof that I was getting worried about my addiction, even at 12.

When I first found my notebook I decided to try some sprinkled apples, mostly for old times’ sake.
That might have been a mistake.

I’m afraid I’m slipping back into my old habits. It’s like riding a bike. Off a cliff.
So.
Poem!

Cinnamon

Cinnamon

Cinnamon, you are so sweet
Your all I ever want to eat
I sprinkle you on apples
I drink you with my tea
If there was a taste for happiness
You it whould have to be.
But to be really honest
You have to understand
If I didn’t eat other things too
You’d end up tasting bland

Poems from the past – 4 – Computers

Posted on Monday, June 22, 2009 in Duke Of All Trades, English Posts, Poems from the past

Today I bring you part 2 of my collection of poems about “Things I liked that start with C“. Not surprisingly, the subject is computers.

Computers

Computers

To own a computer
Special you don’t have to be
Like a great shooter
You can buy a PC
Or a Macintosh that can play a CD
You can buy diskettes and Softwares
And if people laugh say: Who cares!
Buy Internet and games
They won’t catch flames
Buy a printer
Use it in the winter
Computers are nice but be ware!
You now there exists the Shareware.

Gather round, kids, and let me tell you a story. It’s a story about a time long ago. A dark time, full of parallel ports and screeching modems. Back then, if you wanted pirated software, you couldn’t just download it off the internet. You had to know someone who paid for it personally and have them burn you a copy.
On a Compact Disc!

Torrents were just water streams with a markedly high seasonal variation in their flows!

U.S.B. meant absolutely nothing! (U.S.A. did, though)

Worst of all, though, was the shareware. Shareware programs appeared to be free, but, like sample massages, as soon as you got used to them, they’d stop working and ask for money…

Computers is the 2nd poem I wrote, right after Rhymes, and the difference in quality compared to my later work is quite glaring. Half of these verses are only there to make the rhymes work! “Like a great shooter“? I haven’t got the slightest idea what that means, and I wrote it!

Join me again tomorrow, when I’ll reveal the 3rd thing I liked (and still do!) that starts with C. You get a free sketch if you can guess it right.

Poems from the past – 3 – Cowboys

Posted on Sunday, June 21, 2009 in Duke Of All Trades, English Posts, Poems from the past

This next poem is the first of a triptych of poems titled “Things I liked that start with C“. What’s fascinating to me is that 2 out of 3 still get me excited, today.
Cowboys are the third.
Yes.
I guess I found out how to quit them.

Cowboys

Cowboys

Here we are at 1882
With cowboys and cows that go “Moo”
At the rodeos the wild horses are quite
strong
Very soon the rider’s heads go “glong”
Most people hang all day at the salloon
Betting, playing cards, drinking
Until here comes the moon.
Everybody goes to bed
Yes thats what I said!
(Or wrote)
All the stars making a gentle light
Wow! what a sight
All is quiet
on the particullar night at the Far West.

What I love most about this poem is how innocent my view of the Wild West used to be. It also contains what is possibly the best rhyme I have ever thought up.
I like how my poems are becoming more self-referential, as well.

Poems from the past – 2 – Adventures

Posted on Saturday, June 20, 2009 in Duke Of All Trades, English Posts, Poems from the past

Today’s poem is the last one I found in my notebook. Let’s get right to it.

Adventures

Adventures

Some people think an adventure is
swimming in a lake filled with crocodiles
others think an adventure is
been chased buy a lion for miles
and some people think an adventure is taking a bath
or having for homework a problem of math
Some people think an adventure is
climbing into an eagles nest
others think and adventure is
climbing the the top of the Everest
but some people think an adventure is
climbing on a hill
or being named Bill
So some people are very brave
They could go explore the most mystirious
cave
But

I guess something scared me and I ran away before I could finish it.
I have no idea why I left this poem incomplete, right when it was starting to go somewhere. There’s no sign of eraser marks, so it’s definitely not that I couldn’t think of what to write next (you never get writer’s block when you’re 12).

Maybe I realized that, already, I was way too mature to be writing poetry. So I stopped. Mid-sentence.

Maybe I understood that, instead of just writing about adventures, it was time to embark on one of my own.

Maybe I was called to dinner.

Poems from the past – 1 – Rhymes

Posted on Friday, June 19, 2009 in Duke Of All Trades, English Posts, Poems from the past

I’ve often made fun of poetry in the past.
I might have said that anyone can write poetry, that it’s an angsty teenager thing to do or that good poems are about as rare as unicorns peeing (53 results on Google). But it turns out that there were skeletons lurking in my closet…

My mother found a notebook of mine from the year 1997 (two of my siblings weren’t even born then). Inside it are not one, not two, but ten different poems. That’s right, I was writing poetry before I became angsty.
In order to redeem myself and also to prove the first paragraph’s point, I have decided to share some of them with you, starting today. Note that I’m reproducing them exactly as I found them, without having corrected any typos, which is absolutely not the way my 12 year-old self would have wanted it.
